 Honokaʻa Heritage Center

Sharing the History of Honokaʻa, Hawaiʻi

The original heritage center in Honokaʻa was opened in 2011 as part of the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo’s satellite campus of the North Hawaiʻi Education and Research Center. In the summer of 2021, through a mutual agreement with the university, a new 501(c)(3) non-profit was formed and the center was moved into a more central location at Honokaʻa town in the historic Botelho Building.

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Honokaʻa for visitors and our local communities alike, by providing educational opportunities and exhibits. The Heritage Center also contains an archives, a visitor center and a gift shop.
