Filipino Heritage Day
Filipino Heritage Day returns this year on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 12pm to 4pm!
Help us celebrate Filipino culture with a Visayan dance performance, traditional Filipino desserts, music, and activities!
This complimentary event is part of our ongoing cultural heritage series, showcasing the diversity of our community. We hope to see you!
Japanese Cultural Heritage Day
Mark your calendars…In addition to Filipino Heritage Day on October 18th, we’ve got another cultural event coming up next month, and you won’t want to miss it!
We’re excited to partner with our friends at Hamakua Jodo Mission for Japanese Cultural Heritage Day on Sunday, November 1, 2026 from 10am to 2pm. There will be workshops, historic tours, presentations, performances, a mini-bon dance, and much more. Best of all… this event is FREE and open to the public.
The event will be held on the temple grounds located at 44-2947 Kalōpā Road in Pāʻauhau Mauka. Check out the posted flyer for the schedule of activities!
I Am a Bon Dancer
Book Signing
A special book signing is joining the fun at Japanese Cultural Heritage Day on November 1, 2026!
We’re adding even more excitement to our jam-packed celebration! Join us for a special appearance by local author Brandi-Ann Uyemura, who will be signing copies of her beloved children’s book, I Am a Bon Dancer, from 10am to 2pm.
Books will be available for purchase at the event, so you can take home a special keepsake and meet the author behind this wonderful story!
Japanese Cultural Heritage Day will be held at the Hamakua Jodo Mission temple located at 44-2947 Kalōpā Rd., in Pāʻauhau Mauka.
Growing Up Hāmākua
Join us for Growing Up Hāmākua, a special gathering celebrating the generations who grew up in and around Honokaʻa during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. The event will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Honokaʻa Heritage Center and will benefit the Honokaʻa Heritage Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of Honokaʻa and the Hāmākua Coast.
Guests can look forward to an afternoon of reconnecting with old friends, sharing stories and memories, enjoying heavy pupu and a no-host bar, participating in fun activities, and learning more about the Honokaʻa Heritage Center. A special invitation is extended to those who attended school in Honokaʻa during the 1940s and 1950s. Tickets are $20 per person, and additional donations are welcome and appreciated.
