Chegamos: We Arrived is a staged living-history reading created from true reminiscences of Portuguese families who undertook the long journey to Hawaiʻi in hopes of finding a new life.
Through five characters, the performance shares their experiences of the voyage, the lives they left behind, and their first impressions and discoveries upon arriving in Hawaiʻi.
Directed by UH-Hilo Professor Emerita Jackie Pualani Johnson and produced by Kahealani Martins Curammeng, Chegamos: We Arrived brings the experiences of Hawaiʻi’s Portuguese immigrants to life through the words and memories of those who made the journey.
Come spend an afternoon remembering their courage, sacrifices, hopes, and perseverance and honoring the families whose stories became part of Hawaiʻi’s history.
Please share this announcement with your family and friends. See you in Honokaʻa on August 29!
